A successful WAN optimisation solution can boost the performance of desktop virtualization infrastructure, a leading infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS) write out expert has claimed. According to Joe Ghory, senior product marketing manager at Riverbed Technology, faster user logins, better graphics performance and an increase to system response times - even down to keyboard and mouse input - can all benefit from optimisation.
However, writing for ConvergeDigest.com, Mr Ghory claimed that for a desktop virtualization WAN optimisation solution to be successful it has to incorporate a number of cutting-edge technologies - such as highly efficient compression algorithms, reduced memory duplication and an improvement to re-transmission rates.
Mr Ghory claimed: "By adjusting the network congestion avoidance parameters of TCP connections, performance can be increased by as much as ten times on high-bandwidth, high-latency networks."
Recently, VMware and Citrix unveiled the latest incarnation of their virtualization software. The companies claimed that the new tools will boost bandwidth over local area networks and WANs by as much as 75 per cent.
