Building society Nationwide has revealed that its plan to embrace server virtualization will lead to savings of up to £8 million.
The financial services firm is collaborating with Unisys to virtualize 500 servers as part of its Data Centre Transformation Programme, which will enhance the company's computing architecture while cutting operation and energy costs.

So far, the company has managed to reduce its number of physical servers by a rate of 12 to one.
Peter Stafford, IT director of Nationwide, said the scheme had confirmed the company's belief in the "business benefits" of virtualization.
"This data centre program will provide Nationwide with a world-class server infrastructure - allowing us to respond to changing business needs more quickly and efficiently," he explained.

IT body Trend Micro recently announced plans to work with Wipro Technologies on an initiative to improve virtualization security.
The organisations are planning to establish centres of excellence where businesses can learn more about data protection and compliance issues.
