The increasing popularity of virtual servers is changing the face of managed email, it has been claimed.
According to US-based managed services provider StrongMail Systems, more firms are making use of cloud computing to take advantage of the benefits of installed software and software-as-a-service (SaaS) in one versatile solution.
Executive vice president of business operations at the group Bill Wagner commented that managed IT support providers are not yet fully able to appreciate the implications of using virtual servers offered via the cloud.
He added: "Elastic, low-cost virtual servers that can be quickly and easily provisioned make it possible for a traditional software vendor to offer their product as SaaS without re-architecting it for multi-tenancy, creating a best-of-both-worlds scenario for businesses."
Last week, managed security provider Art of Defence commented that as firms across all sectors become more interested in making the most of cloud computing, it becomes increasingly essential that they are able to utilise effective managed firewall solutions.
