IT company Trend Micro has announced it is set to work with Wipro Technologies on a project to improve virtualization security.

The firms' strategic agreement will see them jointly create centres of excellence where people will be able to learn more about the challenges of data protection, security and compliance issues linked to data centres.

In addition, the businesses are set to develop solutions that will help to secure public and private cloud computing environments.

Wael Mohamed, senior vice-president of business development at Trend Micro, said: "Most data centres are employing virtualization technology these days. But without a virtualization security strategy, these dynamic data centres are less secure than their physical counterparts."

He added that the companies are planning to create "customisable, scalable solutions that enable enterprises to protect confidential data and take advantage of the benefits of virtualization".

Recent research by Symantec revealed that virtualization will be major priority for a number of companies during 2010.
