Cloud computing services such as managed hosting are more likely to be adopted by small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs), according to the latest study.

A report carried out by Spiceworks showed that over 14 per cent of SMBs currently rely on cloud computing services, while ten per cent plan on adopting the services in the near future.

According to the survey, which quizzed over 1,500 IT professionals, the decreasing size of the company often corresponds with the increasing likelihood of adopting the service.

Jay Hallberg, co-founder and vice president of marketing for Spiceworks, stated: "Small companies with little existing infrastructure and outsourced IT are moving most quickly to the cloud, whereas larger SMBs are taking more measured steps due to considerable investments in onsite technology."

Meanwhile, a recent study compiled by International Data Corporation, on behalf of Fasthosts Internet, revealed that 82 per cent of companies recognise the need for the data back-up services which managed hosting can provide.
