A number of organisations are introducing server virtualization into their IT environments, according to new figures.
Research by InformationWeek has revealed that 54 per cent of business technology professionals expect at least half of their servers to be virtualized by 2011.
However, the study also suggested that many companies do not have the management systems in place to cope with the new computing trend, as more than half rely on built-in tools provided by their hypervisor provider.
"This leaves them with two sets of tools to manage - one for the physical servers and one for the virtual environment," Michael Healey of InformationWeek explained.
"Only ten per cent of organisations have invested the time and money to implement a server management system that provides a single framework."
According to recent research published by the Dell'Oro Group, the increasing popularity of server virtualization is set to drive sales of Ethernet circuit technology over the next few years.
