Sales of Ethernet circuit technology are set to be driven by data centre deployments involving virtualization, a new report has suggested.
The study by the Dell'Oro Group revealed that the Ethernet switch market is set to return to growth in 2010 and continue to rise annually through to 2014.
Alan Weckel, director of the organisation, said the data centre will be key to growth in the sector over the next few years.
"For the data centre, we expect above-market growth with modest port growth and significant revenue growth during the forecast period," he explained.
"While we are still very early in the migration towards 10 Gigabit Ethernet for server connectivity, we believe that we will see 10 Gigabit Ethernet as a catalyst for growth in the Ethernet switch market."
Earlier this week, building society Nationwide suggested that its use of server virtualization could lead to significant savings of up to £8 million.
