The popularity of open-source managed hosting solutions is on the rise, it has been revealed.
Research carried out by IT industry analyst IDC surveyed 515 western European IT decision makers in organisations with more than 50 employees and found that nine per cent of respondents reported current use of an open-source back-office application such as a data centre or web-hosting solution.

A further seven per cent stated that they use an open-source customer relationship management application.
Bo Lykkegaard, research director of European enterprise applications and services at the group, commented: "We see vendors of open source enterprise applications attracting equity investments and heavyweight leaders and growth rates are typically above 20 per cent per year, sometimes much higher."
