The number of opportunities available in the managed hosting market is growing, according to an industry expert.

Lanham Napier, president and chief executive officer of Rackspace, made the comment after it was confirmed that the company is looking to expand its public cloud services to the UK before the end of this year.

Discussing the move, the expert suggested that the whole industry is enjoying rising demand at present.

"Our public cloud business grew nearly 125 per cent in 2009," he explained.

"The computing as a service revolution has continued at a rapid pace, with analysts like Gartner predicting that 20 per cent of all organisations will no longer own IT assets by 2012."

David Bradshaw, European software-as-a-service and cloud services research manager at market intelligence body International Data Corporation, recently suggested that hosting services offered via cloud systems are now recognised as mainstream technologies.

He said most firms with over 50 IT users employ cloud technology in some form.
