Companies that are looking to use server virtualisation as part of their IT operations need to manage the systems properly, it has been suggested.

Andi Mann, research vice-president for Enterprise Management Associates, has claimed that the issue has grown in importance as the use of services has increased, but warned that it must be split into separate areas.

  • In an interview with ComputerWorld, he explained that virtual system management and virtualisation management must be treated as separate entities, with the latter being controlled at a higher level than the former, in order for it to be successful.

He said: "This is what you need to do if you want to manage your environment properly.

"Otherwise you're wasting your people - having senior-level architects doing low-level management while IT administrators sit around because they don't have the right tools."
