Despite falling sales as a result of the ongoing economic crisis, the worldwide managed server market will remain stable over the long term, it has been claimed.

Research carried out by IT industry analyst IDC indicates spending in the worldwide managed server market is expected to decline 29.6 per cent to $10.6 billion (£6.5 billion) in the second quarter of 2009.

However, the group went on to say that by the end of the year 90 per cent of the market contraction will have been realised.

Matt Eastwood, group vice president of enterprise platforms at the company, commented: "It's important to note that IDC believes many IT users will begin making strategic compute platform decisions during the remainder of 2009 in advance of improving business conditions and server demand in 2010."

Earlier this week, studies by software solutions provider OpTier found UK firms are making use of overly complex hosting solutions, which is reducing their efficiency.
