Managed hosting providers could see a boom in business after the retail industry recently reported it is actively looking online to boost sales.
Research from business software provider SAP stated more than half of those in the sector will be developing their websites to increase profits, potentially using managed web hosting firms.
In addition, 54 per cent of retailers questioned stated they want to improve customer experience and this will be a key driver in the downturn.
Phil Flaxton, chief executive of IT accreditation scheme Technology Means Business, stated that IT could have a big role to play in businesses coming out of the recession.
"Despite the recession we've seen rapid developments in technology over the last three years, with mobile technology in particular," he added.
The technology industry is "unstoppable", stated Mr Flaxton, as people are quick to capitalise on new trends as they come along.
Cisco recently stated the need for cloud-based managed web hosting is on the rise, predicting global web traffic may rise at a growth rate of 46 per cent.
