Using a blend of managed hosting and cloud computing services can enable companies to cut costs while retaining the traditional benefits of dedicated hosting, such as security and availability, it has been claimed.

According to Carpathia Hosting, a specialised provider of managed services to government agencies and businesses, a hybrid model provides the reliability of a traditionally hosted environment alongside instant access to cloud computing and storage.

Jon Greaves, chief technology officer at the company, commented: "A common problem many organisations are experiencing is the need to cost-effectively scale an infrastructure to meet the peaks and troughs of customers' usage."

The firm went on to say that a hybrid managed hosting system is flexible and can be used to design custom solutions to meet the specific needs of individual organisations.

Earlier this week Chris Mather, group operations manager at IT solutions provider CMather.com, commented that resilient web hosting is the "heart and soul" of a company's website.
