The majority of firms are implementing cloud computing services such as managed hosting in their day-to-day operations, a new survey has revealed.

A poll of IT decision makers conducted by research firm Loudhouse showed that over half of companies are making use of the technology, with the vast majority of these seeing immediate benefits.

  • According to the data, 74 per cent of those which had adopted cloud computing experienced reduced resource pressure, 73 per cent saw a fall in infrastructure costs and 72 per cent reported an improved experience for end-users.

Peter Bauer, chief executive of Mimecast, commented: "The fact that more than 50 per cent of businesses are now using cloud-based applications - with two-thirds currently considering adopting them - is hugely encouraging for the industry."

It comes after a poll of over 1,300 IT professionals carried out by CWJobs showed that 75 per cent believe cloud computing skills will make them more employable.
