Businesses that fail to fully embrace the benefits of server virtualization are doing themselves "an injustice", according to an expert.
Sonal Shah, an associate partner at Solstice Consulting, has claimed that companies are failing both their employees and their bottom line by not using such technology, as the benefits are "so great".

Writing in a column for Computerworld, she claimed that the biggest advantage of server virtualisation is definitely cost reduction, as cutting the number of servers used by a firm can lower costs related to efficiency and maintenance.
She added that companies can use virtualization features such as partitioning, clustering and workload management to also respond more quickly to demands.
"These techniques allow you to configure servers into reusable pools of resources that better position you to respond to business needs," she explained.

Recent research by the Society for Information Management found that server virtualization is now the second most important technological concern for IT executives, behind business intelligence.
