Ethernet specialist Brocade will soon be ramping up its Ethernet switch and router lines with 100GB-capable additions.
The company has claimed that the new releases are the most significant products added to Brocade's portfolio since it acquired Foundry Networks.
Brocade believes the new products will be "industry altering" for both service providers and data centre network users.
Speaking to Network World, Yankee Group analyst Zeus Kerravala said: "100GB is important for Brocade.
"Foundry was known as an innovator in the space but Brocade had fallen a little bit behind. This [announcement] is important to maintain its position as an innovator."
The move comes as industry experts speculate about the future of Ethernet First Mile and Ethernet point to point.
Speaking to Processor.com recently, Josh Stephens, vice-president of CA Technologies, said the major challenge for network virtualization in the future will be the major growth in traffic, and the bandwidth increase that will require.
"Companies are already starting to look at 10, 40, even 100GB Ethernet," he claimed.
